Sixteen debaters from the Bridgeport Public Schools Debate League recently competed in the prestigious Dragon Invitational Debate Tournament in Washington, D.C. They represented Bridgeport with exceptional skill and passion.

Celebrating 12 years of Parliamentary Debate
The Bridgeport Public Schools Debate League kicked off its twelfth season on September 27th at Discovery Magnet School. Old league members welcomed a new class of debaters and coaches, with many new students joining the league to compete during the 2025-2026 season.
May 2025
May will be a busy month for the Bridgeport Public Schools Debate League as we wrap up our 11th season of debate.
On May 1st we will be celebrating Law Day with a morning debate, followed by a breakfast and panel discussion between the student audience and several local attorneys. The event will take place and is being sponsored by Winthrop school and will start at 9:30am.
On May 5th we will be holding our inaugural Labor Law debate sponsored by the Berchem Moses Law Firm. The debate will take place at the Margaret Morton Government Center and will begin at 5:30. The event is open to the public.
On May 10th we will conclude our season with our championship tournament. The five round tournament will be held at Discovery Magnet School and will involve teams from all participating schools.

Celebrating Women’s History Month!
On Saturday March 29th the Bridgeport Public Schools Debate League will hold it’s first all-female tournament. The event will showcase the incredible talent of teams from Cesar Batalla, Discovery Magnet, High Horizons, Marin, Park City Prep, Tisdale School, and John Winthrop. The tournament will take place at Discovery Magnet.
On March 20th, the Bridgeport Public Schools Debate league was hosted by State Senator Sujata Gadkar-Wilcox at the State Capital in Hartford in celebration of Women’s History Month. In addition to a tour of the capital and lunch in the Senate dining room, the students observed a debate between teams from Cesar Batalla and Park City Prep held in the Senate chambers. Observing the debate were Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz, Senate Majority Leader Bob Duff, and other State Senate and House members. A special thanks to BOE chair Jennifer Perez who accompanied the group to this wonderful event.

On September 28th the Bridgeport Public Schools Debate League opened its eleventh season at Discovery Magnet School with old league members welcoming our newest group of debaters and coaches. Fifty six students joined the league to compete in the 2024-2025 season.
